Welcome to my website about

LOS ANGELES !

This website has created because I wanted to honour to my favourite city Los Angeles and I would like to show many nice pictures about Los Angeles those people who have never been there.

I did not take these photos unfortunatelly, but I have been collecting these picture for years from the internet.

History of California and Los Angeles

California is the most populous state of the USA with 22 million residents. There are golden sunshine, balmy air, mammoth pine trees, blue ocean and sandy beach...

The first colonists arrived from Mexico to California, their memory are cherished of some old churchs and monasteries. The real carrier of California began in 1848, when USA got Los Angeles from Mexico which was just a little village covered with dust this time. In this year the news exploded that pure gold had found in the sand of American River near to Sacramento in the course of building a sawmill. Gold fever had broken out! Fortune hunters overran North-California from the East Coast. Many of them took a short cut across the forest of Panama isthmus to reach California, but malaria and yellow fever decimated them.

The richest quarries got worn out soon and only few people found their fortunes. Residents of California had grown from 15 000 to 260 000 in four years and the claims of mining towns opened new perspectives for industries, agriculture and capitalist company enterprises, for example Levi Strauss which became popular worldwide this time.

In 1849, a Hungarian world traveller, Haraszthy Ágoston arrived in California and he acclimatized the vine-growing in California. He brought vine-branches from the most famous vine-growing regions to choose the most siutable ones. He planted them around San Diego at first then Sonoma neighbourhood. The result of his exertions: there are huge plantations around Fresno and near to San Francisco, in the Napa Valley. In the center of Buena Vista's wine-cellars a statue would be set up for him and there is a commemorative column monument in Sonoma, too.

Thanks to refrigerating cars California has become the orchard of USA.

Los Angeles won fame by smog which has caused by cars's escaping gas. This city was a small, dusty, hidden village 120 years ago. Only railway line brought it in connection to the circulation of agriculture. The real prosperity of Los Angeles began in the early XX. century when the biggest artificial harbour of the world would be built and the oil-fields would be discovered.

Hollywoodian motion picture industry and aircraft industry also created this time. Los Angeles started to grow by immigrations from Mexico and East Coast. Nowadays approximatelly 10 million people live in LA. It has public transport but the most part of traffic is being arranged by millions of cars. In Los Angeles there are 8-10 sriped highways and curved, multileveled crossings which link up with quarters of town, but in the hours if peak traffic this huge network roads cannot cope with traffic.

Car madness is even more conspicuous in LA than in the other part of America. They do not build pavements in the rich garden suburbs of LA, since nobody would use them. Many things are built to the cars, for example "Drive-in" cinemas, restaurants, banks. Even pillar-boxes are built that drivers can drop the letters in the letter-boxes from their cars.

Los Angeles is the "ideal" of American way of life, the city of total motorization, continuously motion. Beyond to many cars there are more hundred thousand motor-boats and sailing-boats berthed at the harbour of Marina del Rey, and at least 10 000 private jets are registered, too.

Los Angeles has no rivers, its climate is very arid, so they bring water by pipe- and channel systems from more than 1000 km distance and River Colorado and the east slopes of Sierra Nevada (400 km). Famous fruit gardens of California Valley are also watered by this water.

Unfortunatelly the numberless cars have poisoned the balmy air of LA, this is why municipality began to think about developing of public transport in the 1980's years and now as a result of that more bus lines and 8 metro lines, suburban railway lines go thoroughly the city.
